Sailing will begin June 4, 2020

Opening night for the Holmes Lake Sailing Club 2020 season will be Thursday, June 4th (weather permitting). The first race will start at 6:00.  As you are all aware, life has been anything but normal the past few months and we’ll need to make a few changes to follow current local health recommendations (https://www.lincoln.ne.gov/city/covid19/).

  1. If you’re not feeling well, please do not come to the lake. It’s also more than OK for anyone to sit out for a while if they or someone they interact with are at higher risk for COVID-19 complications.
  2. Practice social distancing while rigging, launching, and retrieving your boat. Spread out along the beach and parking lot. The dock is the most challenging place to maintain distancing and ideally only one boat crew should be on the dock at a time. Sail only with individuals from your household. Don’t switch boats or take on extra crew between races. Those watching from shore should also maintain social distancing.
  3. Face coverings are recommended on shore (including the dock) but not while on the water. Wash or sanitize your hands as soon as feasible after touching high contact surfaces.
  4. Race committee will be done on the water, at least to start the season. This means no flags for the 3 minute starting sequence. Be prepared to record your own race times and e-mail them to me along with any handicap modifiers. The start/finish line will be the flagpole and the nearest buoy. The first boat on the water will set the courses for the evening, just make sure everyone knows the course. As a general guideline, I’d like to aim for shorter races (15-20 minutes per race for the slowest boat) to increase the number of total races this season.
